Department Of Texas American Legion website

Dear American Legion Audie L. Murphy Post No. 336 Member:

Welcome to all new and returning members from all the Post Officers and Members.

Donations are being accepted for American Legion Programs.  Please contact the Commander to contribute. We are a 501c (Tax-Exempt) veterans organization and receipts will be given for contributions. We have given donations to The "Blue Santa" organization in Leon Valley, the "Camp Corral" organization, Cub Scout Pack 485, the Fisher Houses at the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital and at the Wilford Hall location, Lackland AFB, and the Military Veterans Day Parade Association, to name just a few.  We also have a medical scholarship program set up at the University of Texas San Antonio, medical campus.  We are already committing $500.00 to the first of many recipients:  The Golden Corral's Camp Corral for disadvantaged children.

The American Legion Audie L. Murphy Post No. 336 presented it’s first medical endowment scholarship to Cassandra Bullock a US Army veteran.  The medical scholarship for veterans is named American Legion Post No. 336 Endowment Scholarship in Memory of Irwin Barath.  Irwin was a longtime Post member and was instrumental along with Post member JC Smith and Gwen Notestine, UT Health San Antonio, in its creation

The Golden Corral opened with a bang this past Saturday, March 26th, with a huge crowd of very hungry customers.  Our post took advantage of this and set up our first membership booth in 2022 at the Golden Corral, 5071 N. W. Loop 410.  We signed up 3 new members and received over $400.00 in sales and donations.  We again set up camp on Saturday, April 2nd, from 1000 to 1800 hours and although we didn't sign up any new members, we did collect nearly $500 in donations.  We continue to set up membership booths at every opportunity; out most recent was on May 28th where we signed up a new member and transferred another, and took in over $400.00 in sales and direct donations, which have been designated for the Jeep Restoration Fund.

Our new Webmaster is Post 336 member and Cub Scout Pack 485 Leader James Fleming.  We are looking forward to a new webpage created by James.  We will keep you posted.

Everyone is encouraged to sign up at least one new member for the Post.  The American Legion 2023 year begins on July 1st.  Save $100.00 by becoming a Paid-Up-For-Life member!  Welcome to all our new members and thank you, everyone, for making our membership drive a success!  Please contact our Commander, Spencer Spriesterbach at 210-823-1416 to see what you can do to support this effort.

Please keep sharing our programs and “Just Ask” someone to join.  We are currently recruiting for the 2022 year; we have a goal of 891 paid members and are just over 72%.   Post 336 annual dues are still $42.  However, if you wish to pay your 2022 dues to remain an active member, it's only $31.00 for the remainder of 2022 IF you go ahead and pay for 2023 at the regular dues cost of $42.00 and save $11.00.   If you wish to take advantage of this savings, please contact our Immediate Past Commander, Walter Geraghty at (210) 508-1959 or Richard Wood, Post Finance Officer, at (210) 827-7985.

We now are on Facebook; search for "Audie L. Murphy American Legion Post 336" in FB. The site is now "OPEN" to the public to view.

Our Auxiliary is recruiting new members, as well. Their Membership/Renewal Person is Margaret Ozuna, and she can be contacted at alaunit336@texaspost336.org. Cost of membership for a year is $34.00.

Upcoming Events and Changes

We are looking for a guest at our Christmas Party on December 18, 2021 who made a winning bid of $120.00 on one of the scratch-off boards which were part of a silent auction. One of the boards was won by our Post 336 member Ricardo Castro with a winning bid of $115.00. We need the other winner to step forward and identify themselves. The phone number which was written down doesn't appear to be a working number.

Thank you in advance for your honesty in this matter.

We provided a Teachers' Appreciation Breakfast at the Leon Valley Elementary School on Friday morning, February 25, 2022, from 6:30 to 8 AM.  The food was good, the teachers and staff really enjoyed it and a good time was had by all.

We conducted a "Buddy Check" on February 26, 2022, from 1000 to 1200 hours at Aligned Mortgage, 5590 Summit Parkway, San Antonio, TX.  As a result, we not only made contact with numerous fellow members to check on their welfare, but we also made contact and were able to transfer 12 members of the "Ghost" Post 345 to our Post 336.  Great going to all those in attendance.  We will continue to have these "Buddy Checks" once a month going forward.

The Post was gifted a 1942 Willys Jeep in 2019.  We have been in the restoration process and are working to completely fund this project.   We are asking that our membership make a donation directly to our Jeep Restoration Chairperson, Lloyd Adams, (210) 381-3427, email lloydadams@satx.rr.com,  or to our Finance Officer, Richard Wood, (210) 827-7985, email rw00d54@swbell.net.
